Carburizing

Carburizing is a thermochemical process that allows steel to reach the maximum possible hardness by adding Carbon on its surface. The depth of this heat treatment is determined by the customer’s project and it can span between few tenths of millimeter to about 6 mm, however the limits are defined by the cost-benefit evaluation and not by the process itself.
We have six “well chambers” with capacity until diameter 3800 mm and 4500 mm of length. This kind of ovens allow the vertical heat treatment, which prevents deformations for long-shaped shafts.
All plants are automated and the processes, where the stages sequence is governed by the quality system to ensure repetitiveness, are managed by a customized software that was developed on the main parameters of temperature and Carbon content. The PLC governs the power to the electrical resistances and the gas flow to adapt the programmed settings to the real parameters.
We guarantee the stability of the results by periodical uniformity checks of temperature in the ovens and of structure depth on samples.
The two oil tanks with different quenching media allow us to optimize the delicate process of quenching, according to the shape of the pieces and of the required treatment depth.
